- The OS/2 Corrective Service Facility is a utility that applies fixes (service)
- to the OS/2 operating system and other OS/2 products.
-
- The main window contains a list of products that were found on the system that
- are eligible for service. Select those products you want to be serviced by
- highlighting the appropriate entries in the Products list. All eligible
- products are initially selected.
-
- To view the current level(s) of the products on your system, select Current
- from the Levels menu. To view the new level(s) of the products on the
- corrective service diskettes, select New from the Levels menu.
-
- The service utility updates files in a set of directories associated with each
- selected product. To view and/or change the set of directories, choose Select
- directories from the Options menu.
-
- Once all selections have been made, select Service from the Options menu to
- start the service process.
-
- You will not be able to terminate the service process after it is started.
-

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Application in Use ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The Corrective Service program has encountered a file that is in use and cannot
- be updated.
-
- Close the indicated application and select Retry.
-
- If you are unable to close the application, select Reboot You will then be
- prompted to insert Corrective Service Diskette 1 to continue service.
-

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Updating Files ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The Updating Files window shows the current file being serviced and the
- approximate percentage complete.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Insert Diskette ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Insert the indicated diskette into drive A. Then, press Enter or select OK to
- continue. If there is no diskette in drive A or the wrong diskette is in drive
- A when you select OK, a warning beep will sound and the window will remain up.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Reboot ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- Follow the instructions in the Reboot window to continue the service process.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Service Permission ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- A read-only, hidden, or system file has been encountered that should be
- serviced.
-
- If you do not replace this file your system may not be at the same corrective
- service level.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Initiating Service ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The service process cannot be interrupted.
-
- Those applications that are being serviced should not be started.
-
- Select Continue to start the service process.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Service Permission Verification ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- Select OK to cause the indicated file not to be serviced. You should only
- select OK if there is a known reason for not servicing the file.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Newer File Service Permission ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The indicated file to be serviced has a date later than the new file on the
- corrective service diskettes.
-
- Select OK to service the file.
-
- Only select Cancel if there is a known reason why the file should not be
- serviced.
-
- If you select Cancel, this file will not be at the same corrective service
- level as the rest of the files for this product.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Corrective Service Facility Logfile ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The logfile is a cumulative service history. You may browse the actions. The
- logfile contains information about the files and products that are being
- updated. The end of the file contains the most recent actions and may contain
- error messages.

- Select Cancel to return to the error window.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Current Service Levels ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The Current Service Levels window shows the current levels of all the OS/2
- products on your system that have Syslevel files.
-
- The products listed above the separator are serviceable.
-
- You may copy text to the system clipboard by selecting the desired text and
- then selecting Copy.

- You may browse the list.
-

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. New Service Levels ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The New Service Levels window shows the levels of the products on the
- corrective service diskettes. The corresponding products on your system will
- be updated to this (these) level(s) if Service is selected from the Options
- menu.

- You may copy text to the system clipboard by selecting the desired text and
- then selecting Copy.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Corrective Service Facility Fatal Error ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- An error has occurred that prevents the Corrective Service Facility from
- continuing.

- Select Display Logfile to view the service history.

- Depending on the error, an Exit button may be displayed. If this button is
- display, it may be used to exit the service process.

- Correct the problem and select Retry.

- Select Yes if you wish to perform the specified operation. Otherwise, select
- No.

- Directories that should be serviced for the selected products have been
- pre-selected. You may change the directories to update by selecting the
- appropriate directories from the list.

- Only those drives that contain default directories have been selected. You may
- select additional drives by selecting Select drives.
-
- Select OK after selecting directories to activate any changes.
-
- Select Cancel to ignore any changes.
-

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Select Drives ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- Drives that contain directories that should be serviced have been pre-selected.
- You may change the current drives by selecting the appropriate drives from the
- list.

- Select OK to update the current drives. The directory list will be updated to
- reflect any directories from the added drives.

- Select Cancel to ignore any changes.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. Wait ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The wait window is displayed while lengthy operations are being performed. The
- window will be removed when the operation completes.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 20. Access Control List protected file ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- The Corrective Service program has encountered an Access Control List (ACL)
- protected file and cannot be updated.
-
- Exit Corrective Service Facility, and contact your system administrator for
- more information. Corrective Service Facility will not be able to update your
- system until the ACL protected file has been released.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 21. No Directories on Drive ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- The indicated drive does not contain any files to update.
-
- This drive will not be serviced.
-

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 22. Directories or Products Not Selected ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- At least one product and one directory must be selected to start service.
-
- If there are no products listed, then service cannot be initiated.
-
- If there are no directories listed, service cannot be initiated.

- Select a product from the Products list in the main window and verify that at
- least one directory is selected in the Directories list (see Select Directories
- ).

- Service completed successfully.

- Select OK to end the Corrective Service Facility.

- No matching products were found on the target system. Select Current Levels
- from the Levels menu on the main window to view the levels of the products on
- the system.

- This may occur if the corrective service diskettes are at a service level lower
- than the service level of the system.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 25. Exit Corrective Service Facility ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- Select OK to exit the Corrective Service Facility.

- The specified user exit program failed. The Corrective Service Facility will
- continue when you select OK. View the logfile after the Corrective Service
- Facility completes to determine the problem.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 27. Products at New Level ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- All of the selected products to service are at the same level as the fixes
- provided on the corrective service diskettes.

- You may want to continue service if you have added additional features to the
- selected products since corrective service was last applied.

- Select OK to continue service or Cancel to return to the main window.
